Take an old extension cord and tape the black wire to a conductor rod (threaded rod or similar) tape the insulated white wire back onto the extension cord. Put a wood handle on the rod and stick it in the ground and plug in the cord. The worms will work their way up to the surface. If the ground is dry you'll need to water first. Moving the rod in and out of the ground causes a small vibration and it makes the worms come out faster.
